RideShark works by incorporating Google and Microsoft mapping data into
algorithms that allow users to specify search criteria based on their desire for
a match within a specific radial distance from origin and destination. Unique to
RideShark, users are also able to match based on a linear distance from their
route to/from their origin and destination. RideShark offers the only true route
matching currently in use today, and is a patent-pending process.
Registered users have the ability to filter matches based on the following
criteria:
- Driving preference (only if carpool/vanpool option is selected)
- Male/Female preference
- Distance from origin
- Distance from route
- Distance from destination
- Match with own organization or within broader database (dependent upon
RideShark Edition)
Match results can be presented by:
- An algorithm representing a relative distance from origin, route and
destination, with the matches ‘closest’ to you at the top
- An algorithm with performs complicated schedule matching to ‘rank’ matches
by those best matching your commute schedule
