‘Wind Power’ Energy For A Flat Monthly Fee
New startup, INSPIRE, has entered the energy market adopting an entirely new approach, offering a flat-rate charge which it then uses to procure renewable energy certificates on behalf of their customers base, thus increasing the share of clean energy sources in the grid.
Much like a Netflix-esque subscription model, Inspire offers wind power energy instead of ‘Orange Is The New Black’.
The cost of an Inspire monthly membership doesn’t fluctuate in relation to your energy usage. Instead, you pay a monthly fee based upon the cost of wind energy per kilowatt-hour, derived for your past energy-usage habits, the number of people in your household, your local weather, and the square footage of your home.
Inspire has negotiated numerous arrangements deals with utility companies in regions where they are located. You’ll still receive a bill from the your current provider but the flat-rate Inspire charge is what you pay.
There’s even an accompanying app that provides a real-time analysis of your energy consumption that also recommends how to further conserve power and save money.
Inspire COO, Blake Lasuzzo says in a video available on Mashable …
It’s a fundamental shift in the payment mechanism for energy.”
Is this the first of many initiatives to share available clean energy resources and provide more affordable energy fees? Let’s hope so.
